Test Information

Our mission is to give our students the strongest academic foundation possible so that they can achieve their greatest potential in school and life.

Presentations (lessons) are done in large groups, small groups and individually for the children on a vast variety of subjects. The children work on many skills every day. Math, Language, Science, and Social Studies are the academic areas which we delve into with great enthusiasm with the children. Practical Life, Sensorial, Music and Art are also essential foundations for competency skills for children.

The experiences we provide for the Kingwood Day School students have given them outstanding knowledge and confidence when they enter First Grade in any other school. Their educational experiences have benefited them tremendously.

One important experience for our Kindergarteners is testing. We do practice tests Spring Semester to provide a positive experience while enhancing the optimistic attitude of our Kindergarteners.

In late April we administer the Stanford Early School Achievement Test. This test covers Math, Language, Science, Social Studies and Listening Skills. This is the most comprehensive achievement test I have seen. We utilize the test for the end of Kindergarten through the end of First Grade. The range of skills evaluated is phenomenal. Our policy is to test all of our Kindergarteners.

Seventy percent of our graduates are in Gifted and Talented programs in various schools.

Kingwood Day School does not remove the scores of any child who is qualified for Special Education services or who receives any private services or who is diagnosed with any issues.

The attached scores are percentile ranks for the average scores for the Kindergarteners for each year. Percentile rank places a score within one hundred average Kindergarteners’ scores nationally. A percentile rank of 50 means that the score is above 49 and below 49 out of an average group of 100 Kindergarteners. (SATs have percentile ranks based on the same ranking.)

The positive experience of the testing and the preparation provided for testing are the most important aspects of test taking for the Kindergarteners. Parents enjoy the test results because they are so positive for each individual and give the parents a broader perspective on their child’s skills.
